Ongoing AI Governance Consultancy

AI governance is not a project with an end date. The regulatory landscape is changing. New tools are being deployed across institutions every month. The questions your Board and your regulator will ask are evolving alongside them.

An institution that gets its AI governance in order today will need to maintain and develop that position. Ongoing AI governance consultancy gives your institution access to senior, specialist expertise on a continuing basis, structured around your specific needs rather than a standard package.

Engagements are available on a day rate or monthly retainer basis. The day rate is appropriate for defined pieces of work. The retainer is appropriate for institutions that want a named senior practitioner available on a continuing basis.

When Ongoing Consultancy Applies

The following are among the most common reasons institutions engage Clark & Company on an ongoing basis.

Post-readiness programme support. Your institution has completed the AI Governance Readiness Programme and has an improvement roadmap to implement. Ongoing consultancy provides the specialist input needed to act on specific findings.

Board and committee reporting. Your governing body or audit committee receives regular reports on AI governance. Ongoing consultancy provides the expert input that makes those reports substantive rather than formulaic.

Regulatory monitoring. The AI regulatory picture is developing. Ongoing consultancy ensures your institution is tracking what matters and adapting its governance position before obligations crystallise rather than after.

New tool deployments. Your institution is deploying new AI tools on a continuing basis. Ongoing consultancy provides expert input at the procurement and due diligence stage of each deployment.

Policy and documentation maintenance. AI governance documentation needs to be kept current. Ongoing consultancy provides the resource to maintain policies, acceptable use frameworks, and staff guidance without placing that burden on in-house teams.

Incident support. An AI-related incident has occurred   a data breach through an AI tool, an unacceptable use by a member of staff, a supplier failure, or a regulatory contact. Ongoing consultancy provides immediate expert support.

What is Included

Every ongoing AI governance consultancy engagement with Clark & Company includes the following as standard.

Named senior practitioner. You work with the same senior practitioner throughout the engagement. There is no handover to a junior team member and no loss of institutional knowledge between engagements.

Scoping conversation. Every engagement begins with a short conversation to confirm the scope, the expected workload, and what a good outcome looks like. There is no charge for the scoping conversation.

Direct access. For retainer engagements, direct access by email and phone during working hours. For day rate engagements, direct access on the day of engagement.

Written output. Where the engagement produces a deliverable   a policy document, a briefing, a committee paper, a due diligence report   it is provided in writing and documented to a standard the institution can rely on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the day rate and the retainer?

The day rate is appropriate for discrete, defined pieces of work. The retainer is appropriate for institutions that need a named practitioner available on a continuing basis   for regular advisory contact, board reporting cycle support, and priority availability when something urgent arises. The retainer is not an advance purchase of hours; it is a standing arrangement.

Retainer engagements are agreed individually. A minimum term is usual to reflect the onboarding required and the continuity the arrangement is designed to provide. We discuss this at scoping.

Yes. Some institutions start with day rate engagements and move to a retainer when the volume of work warrants it. We will tell you when that line has been reached.

Advisory input, document review, policy drafting, due diligence support, board briefings, regulatory correspondence, and attendance at governance meetings where required. Work that falls outside normal advisory scope   such as a full AI strategy development or a formal readiness programme   would be scoped and priced separately.
